Test Code PWP Pinworm Preparation

Specimen Requirements

1. Apply the adhesive surface of a 2 to 3 inch strip of clear cellophane tape to the perianal folds of the patient immediately after he awakens. A tongue depressor can be used to provide a firm backing for the tape.
2. Smooth the tape, adhesive side down, on a glass slide. Be careful not to contaminate hands.
3. Alternatively, a Pinworm Paddle (FalconTM SWUBETM) may be submitted. The paddle has an adhesive surface which collects and holds the specimen. Once the specimen is collected, the paddle is placed back into the transport tube and submitted to the laboratory.
