Important Note
Fasting Glucose Level: 70-109 mg/dL
Impaired Fasting Glucose: 110-125 mg/dL
Defined by the ADA as a category at risk for future diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends the following criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes:
Abnormal Fasting Glucose: >126 mg/dL
Symptoms of diabetes and a random glucose: >200 mg/dL 2 Hour Postprandial Glucose: <140 mg/dL
O’Sullivan 50 gram: <140 mg/dL
A plasma glucose level greater than 140 mg/dL 1 hour after a 50 gram oral glucose load indicates the need for a full diagnostic 100 gram 3-hour oral glucose tolerance test performed in the fasting state.
2 Hour Glucose Tolerance Test – Oral Glucose Tolerance Test
Normal glucose tolerance: <140 mg/dL
Impaired 2 hr glucose tolerance (pre-diabetes): 140-199 mg/dL
Diabetes: >200 mg/dL
3 Hour Glucose Tolerance Test – Gestational Diabetes Diagnostic
Fasting (prior to glucose load): 95 mg/dL
1 hour after glucose load: 180 mg/dL
2 hours after glucose load: 155 mg/dL
3 hours after glucose load: 140 mg/dL
Indication: If two or more values meet or exceed the target level, gestational diabetes is diagnosed.
Please see critical value reporting information below:
<50 mg/dL >1 week
<25 mg/dL <1 week
>400 mg/dL >1yr old
>250mg/dL < 1yr old
