Useful For
This new test will provide rapid and accurate detection of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus from nasal specimens.
- Using this test to screen for MRSA nasal colonization aids in the prevention and control of MRSA infections in healthcare settings.
Specimen Type
Acceptable specimens are E-swabs or Liquid Stuart’s swabs. E-swabs are preferred collection device.
Specimen Requirements
Insert swab no more than one inch into one nostril. While applying light external pressure, rotate the swab back and forth five times. Withdraw the swab. Insert the same swab no more than one inch into the other nostril. While applying light external pressure, rotate the swab back and forth five times. Withdraw the swab and place into the accompanying transport medium.
TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE
Swabs may be stored at room temperature for up to 24 hours or refrigerated for up to 7 days prior to testing.
