Specimen Requirements

NOTE: Hemolyzed samples should not be used with the LDI method

Preferred: Plasma
Acceptable: Serum
Specimen Volume: 1.0 mL

SPECIMEN PROCESSING and HANDLING

For serum, complete clot formation should take place before centrifugation. Serum or plasma should be physically separated from cells as soon as possible with a maximum limit of two hours from the time of collection.

TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE

Separated serum and plasma samples are stable at 20 – 25 °C for 3 days.6 Do not refrigerate or freeze.8,9

Note: Activity of LD-4 and LD-5 isoenzymes are lost if the samples are stored below ambient temperatures.
