Test Code GIARDIA Giardia/Cryptosporidium Ag Stool

Important Note

Stool specimens that have been treated with PVA fixatives are not suitable for use with this test.

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Stool in sterile Container
Specimen Volume: 5 gram

SPECIMEN PROCESSING and HANDLING

Collect stool specimen into a wide mouth plastic container with a tight fitting lid and transport directly to the laboratory.

TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE

Fresh, untreated stool specimens should be stored at 2-8°C and tested within 48 hours of collection. Fresh specimens may be frozen at -20°C for up to 2 months before testing.

Stool specimens may be preserved in 10% formalin or sodium acetate (SAF) fixatives.  These specimens may be stored frozen (-20°C or -70°C), refrigerated at 2-8°C or held at 20-30°C and tested within 2 months of collection.

Stool specimens may be placed in modified Cary Blair Transport medium with indicator (not Cary Blair swab).   These specimens may be refrigerated at 2-8°C for up to 2 weeks or frozen (-20°C) and held for up to 2 months before testing.
