Detects Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, Aeromonas, Plesiomonas, E. coli 0157

Specimen Requirements

Have patient pass 1 to 2 g fresh stool directly into clean,dry container.

Specimen Stability Information

- 1 to 2 g of fresh stool should be submitted within 2 hours of passage in a clean plastic stool cup or            screw cap container.

 

-   Rectal swabs may also be submitted in modified Cary-Blair transport medium, which should be processed within 48 hours to maximize recovery of microorganisms.

 

-  Rectal swabs collected with a standard culturette (Amie’s transport medium) may be submitted if necessary, but delay in transport of greater than 2 hours may adversely affect the recovery of Campylobacter.  Rectal swabs may be submitted for detection of N. gonorrhoeae
