Test Code CLDTPCR Clostridium Difficile Toxin PCR

Important Note

Due to the high sensitivity of nucleic acid amplification tests, viable and nonviable DNA will be detected.  For this reason, specimens should not be submitted within 7 days of a previous test without the approval of a Microbiology supervisor.

Specimen Requirements

Submit at least 2 ml of unformed stool in a clean plastic screw-capped container

SPECIMEN PROCESSING and HANDLING

Fresh, untreated stool specimens should be transported to the laboratory without delay.

TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE

Although specimens may be stored at 2-8°C for up to 5 days before testing, they should be tested soon after receipt in the laboratory. Alternatively, specimens may be kept at 20-30°C testing for up to 24 hours before testing.
