Specimen Requirements

NOTE: Use non-alcohol germicidal solution to cleanse the skin.

Preferred: Plasma
Acceptable: Serum
Specimen Volume: 1.0 mL

SPECIMEN PROCESSING and HANDLING

Complete clot formation should take place before centrifugation. Serum or plasma should be physically separated from cells as soon as possible with a maximum limit of two hours from the time of collection.

TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE

The specimen tube should be completely filled and stored under refrigeration until analyzed. If not analyzed immediately, specimens may be stored tightly closed and refrigerated at 2–8 °C for up to 3 days following collection. After 3 days, specimens should be stored frozen.
